Environmental Baseline Surveys
We pride ourselves on over 30 years of experience in collecting biological and physico-chemical data for an extensive client base. A wide range of specialist equipment aids our ability to collect quality data to meet legislative and specific client requirements, whether in shallow or deep water and in varying types of sediment.
Our sampling equipment packages include Day, van-Veen, mini-Hamon and Shipeck grabs along with Box and Multi- corers. All of which can be combined with our water sampling/profiling and visual imagery packages. Gardline have extensive experience in recommending the most suitable sampling equipment depending on expected sediment types and client requirements. The seabed samples are processed onboard the vessel using our specifically designed Gardline AutoSiever, samples are then securely fixed and labelled for transportation to laboratories for analysis. Gardline can also provide beam trawl surveys for the monitoring and characterisation of epifaunal communities. Samples collected from the beam trawls are processed onboard the vessel and identified to species or lowest taxonomic level. Representative samples of the dominant fauna are retained for laboratory confirmation of identification. We can deploy our equipment packages from any Gardline fleet vessel or any suitable third party platform.
Scientifically Robust Reporting
Gardline are proficient in survey design, we are able to advise the client on the most ideally suited strategies and tailor our survey packages to meet individual client requirements. Gardline have widespread experience in environmental data interpretation and report writing, collected data is analysed, interpreted and incorporated into numerous reports, in house. Our standard reports present and cross reference the results with local, regional and international background data, sourced from both published literature and past surveys, to generate a scientifically robust report.
Meeting legislative requirements
Key national and international directives, as well as conventions, drive marine environmental surveys; including the Habitats Directive; Water Framework Directive; Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive and OSPAR. Environmental Baseline Surveys (EBS) are an important part of these as they provide baseline data from which future impacts can be compared to and monitoring surveys designed. We have a detailed and thorough understanding of these legislations which helps ensure that any sampling protocols which we design will meet regulatory requirements.
