Gardline has extensive experience in providing detailed sediment physical and chemical (physico-chemical) analysis, which formal an integral element of Environmental Baseline Survey (EBS) and geochemical reports. The quality of all physio-chemical analysis is covered by laboratory accreditation (UKAS, USEA, GLP, NMBAQC) and Gardline’s ISO 9001:2008 accredited quality management system which approvals all data prior to despatch to clients.
In-house Particle Size Analysis
Our dedicated particle size laboratory, based in Great Yarmouth, undertakes particle size analysis, in accordance with the NBMAQC scheme, on a wide range of marine and coastal sediment samples. Analysis can be conducted to both ISO and BS standards using a combination of laser diffraction and wet and dry sieving techniques. Routinely, sediment samples <1mm are analysed by laser diffraction using a Malvern Mastersizer 2000. Our state of the art sieve stack and drying ovens allow dry sieving of samples on a range of sieves between 63µm and 63mm, at both 1 phi and 0.5 intervals.
Standard chemical analyses included within our Environmental Baseline and Monitoring survey reports include (but not limited to) total hydrocarbons and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (gas chromatography), metals (ICP-OES and/or ICP-MS), nutrients, total organic carbon and total organic matter (to a variety of ISO, US EPA and British Standards).
